When is a goal not a goal ?

I remember playing football with the lads when I was young, we had no goals so we simply used jumpers for goalposts. All well and good until there was that inevitable point…

GOALLLLL

No it wasn't, shouted the goalkeeper. !!!

Why the debate ?

Simple the goals were not clear.

When it comes to discussing the initial goals in the leadership teams that I meet with they are often like a set of old jumpers at best. Loose, perhaps a bit wooly… and full of holes.

I'm not going to teach you how to set SMART goals, as there's a load of info out there already but I will just draw your attention to it. What are your team using for goals. Are they clear, are they specific?

If it feels like they are as loose as an old woolen jumper, please reach out to me to make constructive use of Smart Goals in your business.
